Introducing AI-Matters

This is the first edition of the AI-Matters newsletter. Framed under the DIGITAL Europe Programme, the AI-Matters project unites 25 partners from eight European countries to enhance manufacturing resilience and flexibility through AI and robotics. Offering an evolving service catalogue, AI-Matters aims to boost European manufacturing leadership by implementing human-centric AI systems. The project creates a network for testing AI solutions, accelerates AI-powered manufacturing, and advances technologies in factory optimization, collaborative robotics, and the circular economy, while fostering collaborations with other EC-funded programs.

In this quarterly newsletter we will intoduce you to our partners, inform you about our services and how you can get involved. We will also keep you updated on upcoming events and share testimonials of manufacturing companies that have used our services to advance their production processes.

Launch event ‘Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for Manufacturing’

On June 6th, the AI-Matters consortium hosted its launch event “Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for Manufacturing” in Bilbao. The event took place during the Bienal Internacional de Máquina-Herramienta and was attended by more than 50 organizations, including SMEs, technology centers, universities, and public institutions. The event allowed attendees to learn about the latest trends in artificial intelligence and robotics from user companies and technology providers, who showcased various use cases and different approaches to the application of these technologies

Browse our service catalog

You can find our service catalog on the AI-Matters website. This catalog includes over 200 services form 8 different countries, categorized into 4 challenges:

  • factory-level optimization: factory floor optimization in manufacturing focuses on leveraging advanced technologies and process improvements to streamline operations. It aims to enhance efficiency, minimize waste, and boost productivity by integrating automation, data analytics and real-time monitoring, ensuring a seamless and optimized production workflow;
  • human-robot interaction: in a manufacturing environment, human-robot interaction (HRI) focuses on creating efficient, safe collaborations between workers and robots. Effective HRI in manufacturing leads to increased productivity, reduced error rates, and improved worker safety, fostering an environment where humans and robots can coexist and complement each other’s capabilities.
  • circular economy: the circular economy in the manufacturing industry focuses on minimizing waste and making the most of resources. This approach involves designing products for longevity, reuse, and recyclability, promoting sustainable production processes. It aims to create a closed-loop system where materials are continuously repurposed, reducing environmental impact and fostering innovation and efficiency.
  • other emerging and enabling technologies: innovative tools and systems that support and enhance manufacturing processes and facilitate smarter production, supply chain efficiency, and product innovation, driving the industry towards more integrated, sustainable, and customized manufacturing solutions.

Meet Our Consortium Partners: Project Coordinator CEA

Based in Paris-Saclay and Grenoble, CEA-List is a leading institute within CEA’s Technological Research Division, specializing in intelligent digital systems.

CEA’s mission is to enhance business competitiveness by transferring technology and innovation to industry. With a team of approximately 1,000 research engineers and technicians and a portfolio of patented technology building blocks, it is well-equipped to drive innovation.

CEA accelerates its partners’ projects by hosting them on thematic platforms, which are unique in Europe. Each year, CEA collaborates with over 200 companies, with 50% being SMEs. In line with its mission, CEA has developed the PRISM platform to facilitate the adoption of digital technologies. Focus areas include the connected digital factory, agile and flexible production, the sustainable factory and intelligent machines.
