Fraunhofer IPA coordinates the German Node of AI-MATTERS and establishes the Test and Experimentation Facility network. With around 1000 employees, the institute in Stuttgart is one of the largest institutes in the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft with a budget of ~80m euros and around 1000 industrial research and transfer projects per year.
Fraunhofer IPA is well networked with other research and technology transfer organizations (RTO) as well as with many small and medium-sized manufacturing companies (SME), its main customer group. It works closely with the S-TEC Stuttgart Technology and Innovation Campus and ARENA2036. Various departments as well as the Werk150, a subsidiary of Fraunhofer IPA, offer AI-MATTERS services for robotics, process automation, digitalization and more.
Why AI-MATTERS?
When we saw the opportunity to join the AI-Matters initiative, Fraunhofer IPA happily entered the project and took the leadership of the German Node. We see AI-Matters as a key facilitator to enable widespread use of AI in manufacturing and push Europe’s technological boundaries. A perfect match for our more than 50 years of experience in robotics and strong AI portfolio.
Some highlight offerings within the AI-MATTERS project:
- Evaluation of AI-based robot applications like for example handling, assembly, or welding, of novel components in a robot cell, or of industrial robots in terms of accuracy, path planning, or collision behavior
- AI audits: Audit of the development process of AI solutions or the AI model with respect to best practices, regulations, and explainableAI (xAI). Flexible offering with joint workshops, document screening or code-review. The results will be summarized in a report.
- Analysis applicability of MLOps approaches: Thorough evaluation of MLOps’ role in refining your AI/ML model processes, alongside access to an experimental MLOps environment. We provide practical demonstrations to guide you through concepts, strategies and solutions that facilitate the seamless adoption of MLOps tailored to your use cases.
The project benefits from generous co-financing from the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labourand Tourism.
